Welcoming a New Cohort of Educators: Training Doctors, Nurses, and Midwives for Tomorrow

Spread the love

At Seed Global Health, educators are at the heart of our mission to train skilled health workers who are ready to provide quality care from day one. We’re excited to welcome our newest group of educators for the 2024-2025 academic year. Nine new doctor, nurse, and midwife educators will join our partner universities and hospitals in Malawi, Sierra Leone, Uganda, and Zambia. This brings the total number of Seed educators to 24, all focused on improving health worker education and health outcomes in their communities.

Who Are Educators and What Do They Do?

Educators are experienced and skilled doctors, nurses, and midwives from around the world, including an increasing number from African countries. They work alongside faculty and students at our partner health professional schools and hospitals for at least one year. Known as Seed “educators,” they help develop and improve curricula, train and mentor new health workers, and bring learning from the classroom to real-life clinical settings. This approach ensures that newly graduated doctors, nurses, and midwives are ready to practice and care for patients from their first day on the job.

The nine new educators come from countries such as Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, South Africa, Australia, and the United States, bringing diverse skills and experiences to share with their colleagues and students.

Chisomo Kumwenda, a midwife educator from Malawi currently placed at the Bo School of Midwifery in Sierra Leone, said, “I am passionate about improving maternal and child health outcomes. I believe that through education and mentorship, we can cultivate a generation of skilled midwives who will make a lasting impact in their communities.”

By bringing together educators from different backgrounds with local faculty and students, Seed Global Health is building a global community of health professionals. This exchange of knowledge and experience is vital for tackling today’s health challenges.
